Programs
GSA hosts a number of programs designed to meet the practical needs of Duke's graduate students. Major events include the Career Symposium, Graduate Student Appreciation Week, Research Day, the Graduate Student Information Session, New Student Orientation, and the Ph.D. Career Fair.
The Career Symposium educates graduate students about alternative career options and provides helpful hints for making the transition from graduate study to full-time employment.
Graduate Student Appreciation Week recognizes graduate students' contributions to Duke's academic climate through events such as Graduate Student Research Day and Springfestival.
Graduate Student Research Day showcases the scholarly contributions and talent of graduate students to the entire university community.
The Graduate Student Information Session takes place during New Student Orientation and features representatives from various University offices and Durham businesses. The New Student Orientation aids students in their transition to Duke by providing crucial information about the academic climate, community, policies, and resources.
The Ph.D. Fair gives doctoral candidates an opportunity to learn about employment opportunities outside the academy. In addition to these events, GSA coordinates activities designed specifically to encourage social interaction among graduate students.
Future program plans include the development of a Best Practices in Graduate Mentoring Guide at Duke University and a Leadership and Professional Development workshop series.
